Miller Lofts represents Fountainhead’s first 100% income-restricted multi-family development funded by Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC). With it was born the concept of Smart Housing, proving Fountainhead’s notion that affordable housing can and should be abundant with many of the features and amenities one would expect in market-rate housing.
Among the community’s many amenities are a 1,900 square foot saltwater swimming pool with two dedicated lap lanes, an on-site Kayak Center where residents can check-out equipment for enjoying the nearby James River. Pet-friendly, Miller Lofts also features an on-site Bark Park. The community is part of the Plant Zero complex, a mixed-use neighborhood established by Fountainhead in 2003 that set Richmond’s Manchester Industrial District revival in motion.
The project is the historic rehabilitation of two historic buildings. Brick is a three story red brick building originally constructed in 1930 for the Sash Door & Glass Corporation. Metal is a red brick warehouse with metal sided wings, originally constructed in 1930 for M. W. Cosby Corp. Both were most recently occupied by Miller Manufacturing.
